Over 85 new titles landed on Relay this week. Here are six worth clearing your Thursday night for.
Happily Ever Awkward
Happily Ever Awkward opens on the worst possible living situation: a couple who just broke up but can't afford to stop sharing an address. Shot in Jamaica, the film turns that logistical nightmare into the entire plot. Every argument over dishes doubles as an old wound reopening, and every quiet moment threatens to turn back into something neither of them meant to feel again.

The Woman in the Window

The Woman in the Window is Fritz Lang directing at the peak of his American period. Edward G. Robinson plays a psychology professor whose one reckless night with a stranger spirals into a cover-up he is nowhere near equipped to run, while Joan Bennett and Dan Duryea circle him for the rest of the picture. Critics have argued about the ending since 1944, and the argument still hasn't been settled.

Until the Light Takes Us
Until the Light Takes Us gets access most black metal documentaries never manage: Varg Vikernes on camera, discussing the church burnings and the murder of his bandmate Øystein Aarseth with the same flat affect he might use to describe the weather. Aaron Aites and Audrey Ewell spent years earning that trust, and the film premiered at AFI Fest in 2008 before finding its real audience on DVD. It is less interested in shock than in explaining how a bedroom hobby turned into an international news story.

Gandhi, My Father

Gandhi, My Father tells the story Richard Attenborough's biopic skipped entirely: what happened to Harilal, Mohandas Gandhi's oldest son, who spent his life failing to become the man his father wanted him to be. Anil Kapoor produced it, Feroz Abbas Khan directed, and The Guardian called it one of the most revealing and courageous films to come out of India. It plays like the private cost of a public saint.

Sensitive Skin
Sensitive Skin gave Kim Cattrall her first real post-Samantha Jones role, and she uses it to play something close to the opposite: a woman who used to be the most desired person in every room and now has to figure out who she is without that. Don McKellar directs and co-stars as her husband Al, adapting the format from a British series that starred Joanna Lumley a decade earlier. It ran two seasons on HBO Canada and never quite got its due south of the border.

Meditation Park
Meditation Park opened VIFF and played TIFF the same year, which tells you how Vancouver felt about it before Relay ever picked it up. Cheng Pei-pei plays a devoted wife who finds another woman's underwear in her husband's laundry and starts, for the first time in decades, asking what she actually wants. Sandra Oh plays her daughter. Director Mina Shum builds the whole film around a woman learning to want things out loud.
